The Nonprofit Management Fund and Portland State University are partnering to create a skilled cadre of organizational assessors. Successful program completion earns a University certificate in nonprofit organizational assessment as part of the accelerated training.
This initiative is sponsored by a Milwaukee-Portland collaboration of experienced funders, practitioners, and academics specializing in nonprofit management. The partners include The Nonprofit Management Fund, Management Cornerstones, Murn & Associates LLC, BDP & Associates, and Portland State University’s Institute for Nonprofit Management; with support from the Marquette University Trinity Fellows and PSU Hatfield School of Government Center for Public Service.
The goal of this initiative is to advance the practice of organizational assessment for the purpose of empowering nonprofits to understand their organizational strengths and limitations. Through the assessment, the consultant identifies strategies to assist in the advancement of the nonprofit. Another goal is to offer the funding community a credible means of viewing the organization’s capacity beyond program funding requests.
The Nonprofit Management Fund in collaboration with the African American Leadership Alliance of Milwaukee (AALAM), and the Society of Process Consultants have developed a unique training and professional development cohort made up of new or soon-to-be nonprofit and small business consultants. The 6-week program develops a professional support system for Consultants of color to work with local nonprofits.
The program introduces process consulting as an iterative form of humble inquiry and guidance in which the consultant works alongside the client to co-create solutions. The curriculum combines the tenets of process consulting as a vocation with the practical lessons of building a consulting business or operating as an internal consultant or strategist. The learning process is a student-centered, inquiry-based cooperative learning experience with a group of peers. At the end of the program, each participant has the opportunity to earn the Certified Process Consultant™ credential.
The Nonprofit Management Fund is a collaborative partner of Jumpstart Capacity Building℠, a program of Network for Good, which provides nonprofits with the integrated tools, plan, and one-on-one coaching required to increase fundraising capacity, diversify revenue, and sustain programs, built on the framework of unified objectives, leveraged resources, and servant leadership.
The Nonprofit Management Fund has subsidized 7-8 local nonprofit organizations annually to participate in a year-long training cohort and mentoring program, since 2018.
