Social Entrepreneurship

For several years, the Nonprofit Management Fund focused on earned income and social entrepreneurship. Several projects are described in the projects section of this site. The Fund will continue grantmaking in this area, but completed its strategic initiative in 2000. Two recent grants may be of interest to staff, Board and volunteers interested in earned income.

A grant has been made to the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Business School to underwrite first year costs associated with a Social Entrepreneur in Residence. Julia Taylor, CEO of the YWCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee, is serving in the position. For more information on activities of the Business School and Social Entrepreneur in residence, contact Rita Cheng, Associate Dean at the Business School by calling (414) 229-4238 or via email at rcheng@uwm.edu

In collaboration with the United Way of Greater Milwaukee and the Helen Bader Foundation, the Fund has awarded a grant to three organizations: Urban Economic Development Association of Wisconsin; Nonprofit Center of Milwaukee, and Center for Urban Initiatives and Research of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. This consortium, in conjunction with several other partners, will present a speaker series, conduct basic research on current practices and host a series of roundtable discussions among nonprofit leaders. For more information, contact Leigh Kunde at the Nonprofit Center, (414) 344-3933 or send an email to npcm@execpc.com.
