challenges for over 25 years, Sam
Macklem focuses on four nonprofit
areas—fund development, campaign
management, diagnostic clinics and
board development. Sam has worked
with more than 150 nonprofit organizations,
ranging from grassroots groups to
universities. She has worn the hats
of Director/VP of Development, Associate
Executive Director, Board Director,
and a consultant for the past 10
years, and brings those experiences
to her work. In addition to being
a Certified Fund Raising Executive
(CFRE), Sam is certified in conducting
organizational assessments and brings
special knowledge in nonprofit management,
fundraising, planning processes,
and Board expertise to the assessment
process. Sam has a Master’s
Degree in Communication from UW-Milwaukee

Christi Murn has been a philanthropic
management consultant with Murn &
Associates for 17 years, most recently
assuming the role of President. She
has provided fundraising campaign
management, training and coaching
for staff and volunteers, Board development,
as well as marketing studies and strategic
planning for nonprofit organizations.
Her work includes local grassroots
groups to organizations that are national
in scope. In addition, Ms. Murn is
certified to conduct nonprofit organizational
assessments from the Nonprofit Management
Fund, and facilitates organizational
restructuring and collaboration ventures
for nonprofits. She is a graduate
of the University of Wisconsin-Madison
and a dedicated volunteer serving
people with disabilities. |

service management and legal experience

Governance, staff development, deficit-reduction,
right-sizing, diversification of
funding and programs are some of
the major challenges she has creatively
and successfully managed in a staff
capacity. Consultation areas have
included: Board/staff relations;
strategic planning; human resources;
and, program planning. She received
her Law Degree from UW-Madison,
Master’s Degree in Social
Work from UW-Milwaukee, Bachelor’s
Degree in Business Administration
from Roosevelt University in Chicago,

groups are alike. Francis Vogel
utilizes his 11 years professional
experience as a consultant and staff
person in the Milwaukee nonprofit
arena to deliver innovative, cost-effective,
customized solutions to clients.
Specialty areas include strategic
planning, Board development and
public relations. When appropriate,
he draws upon a diverse network
of seasoned colleagues to complement
his services. Francis’ community
involvement includes service as
YMCA Holton Youth Center’s
Board Chair and as SS. Peter and
Paul Parish Vice-Chair. Since 2002,
he is also an Adjunct Professor
at Springfield College School of
Human Services. His educational
background includes Bachelor’s
degrees in History and English from
the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
where he has also completed considerable
coursework towards a master’s

Debra Karp serves as Director of the
Nonprofit Institute as well as the
Director of the Arts Management Program
at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
Debra holds a master’s degree
in business from the Bolz Center for
Arts Administration, a program of
the UW-Madison Business School. With
over 20 years experience working with
nonprofit organizations as a staff
member, volunteer and Board Director
as well as a panelist for funding
agencies, Debra offers insight in
marketing, planning, grantwriting
and other fundraising activities for
nonprofit organizations. Her training
in the Diagnostic Clinic program has
sharpened her skills and ability to
assess the needs of nonprofits and
generate productive solutions to help
