BOARD CONSULTANT
INSTITUTE GRADUATES
Dr. Ronald E. Retzke is a
principal with Retzke & Associates and has over 20 years of
experience in management, training, and strategic planning. He has
served as President of nonprofit organizations, as a Board member
leading strategic planning, and as an Executive Director. Complementing
his nonprofit expertise, he also has executive management experience
with a national for-profit health care company. Ron is a graduate
Marquette University, and Executive Development Program at University
of Western Ontario Business School.
Having begun her career in social
work, Mary Unkel moved into the world of marketing communications
in the 1980's, eventually becoming a vice president of Ogilvy &
Mather Worldwide Advertising Agency where she developed and managed
campaigns for many Fortune 1000 clients. Since moving to Milwaukee,
Mary has developed a real interest in using her management skills
to help nonprofit organizations improve their effectiveness. A recent
graduate of the Nonprofit Management Fund's Board Consultant Institute,
Mary is looking forward to sharing this valuable information with
forward-looking, nonprofit organizations.
Karen W. Higgins has worked
exclusively with nonprofit organizations and faith based groups
for over the past 23 years. She has served in various roles as Executive
Director, Program Manager, and as a front lines service delivery
person. She strives to help nonprofits gain skills that fulfill
and extend their mission in innovative ways. Her ultimate goal is
to strengthen the community, one nonprofit at a time!
José Vasquez is currently
Director of Urban Relations for the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
He has over 25 years of direct involvement with nonprofit agencies
that range from small community based organizations, social service
agencies, educational institutions, faith-based organizations and
health care facilities. José has served in managerial positions
in small and large public and private social service and educational
institutions. He has received training in organizational development,
strategic planning and Board development.
Bob Pietrykowski has as his
personal mission statement: "Building community through relationships
and networks." He provides the following consultation services:
Collaboration and Partnership Building, nonprofit Board Assessment
and Development, Philanthropy and Fundraising Guidance, and Organizational
Mediation. His professional and volunteer careers have provided
many opportunities to learn from thoughtful and effective boards
of directors and executives. These careers also have offered opportunities
to demonstrate successful leadership in the nonprofit sector as
a paid staff, as a director on numerous Boards of Directors, as
the Board president for at least five of these Boards, and within
the past year as a consultant to ten nonprofit organizations.
Sandy Stuckmann has over
25 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, volunteer management,
and leadership and staff training. As a national consultant, working
primarily with nonprofit organizations, Sandy specializes in increasing
net revenue, developing marketing and sales strategies, operational
streamlining, volunteer management, Board development, and organizational
restructuring. She is a Past President of the Waukesha Symphony
Board of Directors and presently serves as Marketing Chair for the
Board of Directors of LEAVE A LEGACY Wisconsin and Vice President
of Communications for the Board of the Planned Giving Council of
Eastern Wisconsin.
Barbara Gross is a seasoned
professional with 25 years experience in consulting, assessment
and process improvement. She assists Boards and senior management
with developing and implementing strategic plans. In addition, Barbara
has extensive experience in facilitation of leadership and team
development.
Norman Bud McKonly
is the Chapter Executive for the American Red Cross in the Greater
Milwaukee area, which has implemented a variation of the Carver
model of governance. He has served as an executive in the Red Cross
for over 28 years working with Boards of Directors of various sized
chapters across the country. Bud is also an experienced Board member
having served as a member of a variety of community and organization
Boards over the years.
Eloiza Altoro-Acevedo has
more than 10 years experience in grassroots community organizing,
leadership development, social services, and public policy. Much
of her emphasis has focused on issues that address the Latino community,
women wellness, youth development, mental health, substance abuse,
and political advocacy and reform. Through her leadership, several
grassroots initiatives have been developed including a statewide
Latino Student Network, and a Young Latino Professionals Network.
Her current work includes coordinating, monitoring and advising
state and local systems around certification, education and training,
policy and resource development in the areas of mental health, violence,
prevention and early intervention.
For the past 5 years, Jim Milner
has served as the Director of Workforce Development, Communications
and Government Relations for the Social Development Commission.
With 17 years of marketing and management experience, he has developed
job and business training programs including outreach strategies
that have been successfully used by organizations such as the Milwaukee
Urban League, The Milwaukee Jobs Initiative, Lincoln Park Community
Center and the State of Wisconsin Department of Vocational Rehabilitation.
As a Communication and Organization leadership major at Marquette
University, extensive training with National Association of Community
Action Agencies and the recent completion of this Board Consultant
Institute, Jim has the necessary skills to address issues in his
area of focus, which include executive coaching, group facilitation,
and relationship development.
